coherent- logically connected; consistent:
For the first time since being attacked, my mind began to access what happened and try to formulate a coherent response.

eschew- deliberately avoid using; abstain from. 
"he appealed to the crowd to eschew violence"

acquisitive- excessively interested in acquiring money or material things.
From here however, the company became increasingly acquisitive and ambitious.

emulate- to copy or imitate
We tried to emulate what we had seen in the morning

banal- so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring.
The store was filled with banal, mass-produced objects.

excoriation- to condemn, criticize thoroughly or express strong disapproval.

congeal- to solidify, especially by cooling, or to take shape, especially to form a satisfying whole

carping- difficult to please; critical.

substantiate- to prove a claim to be true or back up a claim with evidence.
However, any opinion you advance must be well substantiated

temporize- to suit one's actions to the time, 
occasion, or circumstances, without reference 
to principle
They did not falter, they did not dissemble, they did not temporize

largesse- money given with ease.
Would John Prescott allow any elected regional assembly to have the same financial largesse allowed to the Scottish executive?

tenable- reasonable, or able to be sustained or maintained
A number of entrance scholarships and leaving scholarships tenable at the universities are offered annually

insatiable- an appetite for something that cannot be satisfied

These materials generally

germane- something relevant to the topic.
It's the last part that is especially germane.

ramify- to divide or spread out into branches or branchlike divisions
There is no proper nucleus of mountains whence chains ramify in different directions.

intransigent- someone stubborn or unwilling to change his views.
Howie remained intransigent in restricting his gift to the rescue children.

taciturn- someone who doesn't say much.
The student was taciturn but still got an A in the class.
