The Catcher in the Rye
Chapters 1-2
The first two chapters of this novel is basically about the main character his view of things. I was very quick to judge Holden. I learned he was a straightforward person who says things on his mind although it could be inappropriate. He mentions his brother who is a writer and is rich with a Jaguar. He talks as if he wants nothing to do with rich people. At the end of chapter one he meets with the Spencers. In chapter two he talks to Mr. Spencer. He lectures him about his education and reads him a history essay. He tries to talk to Holden about his future, but Holden leaves. In this chapter we learn that Holden had some insecurities reguarding people caring for him. Throughout the lecture from his teacher he tries to make himself feel better about things. He's not used to being cared for. Also, he judges people from afar, so it doesn't make him seem vulnerable.
