VOCABULARY: FALL LIST 6

tatters: irregularly torn pieces of cloth, paper, or other material
He couldn't wear his favorite shirt because there were tatters in the worn material.

merely: just; only
She was merely a little girl, but she acted very mature.

vast: of very great extent or quantity; immense
There was a vast difference between their ages.

parlor: a sitting room in a private house
She was alone in the parlor, reading a book.

abrupt: sudden; unexpected
His shout was so abrupt, everyone jumped out of fear.

refract: to deflect
As waves approach the coast, they are also refracted.

immense: extremely large
The immense crowd caused the performers to be nervous.

imperceptibly: impossible to perceive
His emotions were almost imperceptive and she couldn't read what he was feeling.

ventilator: a device that circulates fresh air
The ventilator turned on and cool air rushed through the air.

olfactory: of or relating to a sense of smell
The dog used his olfactory sense to locate the missing girl.
