Fahrenheit 451 Q&A
1. Montag lives in a society where technology has taken over everyone's lives. It's almost like our society to an extent. We rely on technology so much today. Nowadays, without technology we wouldn't be successful in life. Schools are starting to require using technology where its looking up information, printing out a paper, or just plain giving students their own laptops and tablets to use. This is a dystopian society because its about how the future is failing.
2. Clarisse is different from everyone else in her society because she appreciates the little things in life and cares more about other people than herself. She also liked to talk. She had a relationship with Montag and most people in their society don't have.
3.The mechanical hound was programmed to react to Montag because he did not have the same motives as the other firemen. The hound went after to people who were not innocent and he knew Montag was different.
4. The woman burned with her books because she didn't want to live without them. It stuck out to him because maybe at that moment books could be important.
5. The show is pointless to Montag. He doesn't understand why his wife sits and watches it all day.
6. Mildred tells her husband that Clarisse dies in a nonchalant way, like it didn't matter at all to her. She told him that she had forgotten about it. It was so shocking to Montag because he didn't expect that because Clarisse was so important to him.
7. Montag was sick because he felt guilty. The woman burning affected him a lot and also because of the books he had snuck.
8. I think Montag has so many books because curiosity is getting the best of him. I think he lies to himself to make it seem he doesn't have many books.
9. Beatty said the society was missing lots of essential concepts such as leisure, quality, and the result of acting upon these things.
10. I don't thing that Mildred is truly happy. in my opinion, happiness is feeling joy typically caused from another person. Mildred isn't happy because she is addicted to sleeping pills and she has an unsuccessful marriage.
11. Montag changed so much because he met Clarisse and she caused him to have a reality check. He goes from distant, to passionate, and a rebel because he had changed his views on things.
12. 1. The mechanical hound is out to get Montag indicating something isn't right with him
2. "he stood looking up at the air conditioning vent in the hall for a long time...." indicating the books are up there
3. When Mildred almost died from sleeping pills indicating she was not normal.
14. "One drop of rain. Clarisse. Another drop. Mildred. A third. The uncle. A fourth. The fire tonight...."
He's making emphasis on his thoughts and who is affecting him inside. Also, the pace his thoughts are going
15. I think Montag is going to kill Captain Beatty. The Hound will try to attack Montag. Also Mildred was trying to set up Montag so I think he will get in trouble somehow.
Part 2
1. Mildred said that television is better than books because she had an emotional attachment to her parlor. I dont agree with her because I like books and you can personally imagine them anyway you want.
2. Faber gave Montag his number because he knew Montag would one day learn that books were good, not evil.
3.I think if Montag was honest with Mildred he'd say the books were more important. His relationship with his wife was so distant that I couldn't see how there could be any love there. What he did for his books was revolutionary and out of passion.
4. The concept of the sieve and the sand was that if he poured the sand fast enough in the sieve, then maybe it would eventually fill up. This relates to the book because the sand is symbolic to the truth and the sieve is symbolic to his mind.
5. Montag visits Faber because he wants to learn about books. He wants to obtain knowledge about what's inside the books and why they're so special.
6. When Montag tells Faber his wife is dying he means her person is dying. She's been brainwashed by all the technology which is affecting their relationship. He means her soul and their relationship is dying.
7. Faber says that quality, leisure, and the actions upon these things are missing. They don't have the time to think for ourselves. The quality of things in their society is poor. And they cant act upon these things if the society lacks it.
8. An earpiece to communicate with Montag and hear people around him.
9. They act like their children are toys, dolls, or accessories. Like they are not important. That they're burdens when they should be special.
10. Montag reads the poetry to see if they understand. To see their reactions and to see if they get emotional.
11. He knows about how Montag has a lot of books and he wants to use books against him to make his point that books make people crazy. He was quoting lines from books that have to do with their conversations trying to get Montag to burst. In my opinion, it was really clever, but made it known that he also reads books.
